Education

We offer a comprehensive education program for all ages. Our classes are a mix of learning and playing which brings out the best in our kids. Our doors are open to everyone; we would love to have you join us!

Sunday School for ages 2 through grade 6 is held during the school year offering structured lessons during the 9:00 Worship service. We use Witness, an age-based curriculum, to ensure that lessons are appropriate for all children. Students in grades 3 through 6 receive special early communion instruction so that they may participate more fully in the worship service. Children also participate in the Children’s Choir with their classmates, singing during worship three or four times a year.

Confirmation class meets twice monthly on Sunday evenings for students in 7th and 8th grade. The students enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere using Here We Stand, a discussion-based curriculum focusing on Luther’s Small Catechism. Weekend retreats at Camp Mowana are offered to Confirmation students. At these retreats, the kids get to know each other better while exploring their own relationships with God.

The Bethel Youth Group (BYG) also meets twice monthly on Sunday evenings. We use a variety of teaching materials at this level. Currently we are using Faith Lens, an ELCA online publication for youth that ties together the weekly lectionary gospel lesson and a current news event to explore how the gospel guides us in modern living. We close each session with a brief prayer and praise service. In addition, BYG assists with the worship service once a month, an event the entire congregation looks forward to!  Each summer our youth head out on a week long mission trip. We have traveled to West Virginia and Arizona to help those in need. This summer we will venture to Philadelphia. Please see the Youth page for more exciting BYG news!

Adult Bible Study is offered on Sunday evenings. This is a casual, conversational exploration of the Bible. Upcoming topics include What Lutherans Believe and How to Grow a Church.

Summers bring Vacation Bible School to Bethel. This week long adventure is open to all members of the community. It is a great opportunity for kids to learn about their faith in a fun, playful environment.
